Plantain Nachos?!

As I mentioned in the previous post, I completed a round of Whole 30 prior to my wedding. I am working on an upcoming post detailing my thoughts and experience with the program. In the meantime, I decided to share one of my favorite meals that I ate during that time, plantain nachos!


Thanks to the assistance of Instagram hashtags, I came across this recipe concept when searching for Whole 30 meals or recipes. Lord knows that I love nachos (with tortilla chips), but those were obviously not Whole 30 compliant. The Lord also knows that I hate bananas, but I love its cool cousin, plantain! Plantain was a staple in my household growing up and we ate it fried, baked, boiled etcetera. Therefore, I knew this recipe would be a winner for me!

Plantain Nacho Recipe
Nacho Meat Ingredients
  • 1lb ground turkey
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp cumin
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1tsp chili powder
  • 1tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 cup red bell peppers
  • 1/2 small onion (diced)
Plantain Chip Ingredients
  • For quick chips, I use Trader Joe’s  plantain chips :


  • If you wish to make your own plantain chips, you’ll need two green plantains and 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil. You can follow this cool method that I found on Well Fed.

In a large skillet, cook the ground turkey with the garlic, cumin, salt, chili powder, paprika, oregano, bell peppers and onions. While this is cooking, spread out a serving or two (or more depending on your hunger level/number of people) of the plantain chips on a plate/platter and spread the nacho meat upon the chips. Choose your favorite garnishes i.e. salsa, low fat sour cream and wallah. Since I couldn’t eat any dairy I would add guacamole, olives and fresh jalapenos (soooo good).  Eat up and enjoy!
