I’m going to be 30 years old in 30 days and I can’t believe I just typed that. Growing up, I was the resident baby of the crew since I was the youngest sibling and the youngest in my first generation cousin clique. Let’s just say that “adulting” has felt especially odd.

I work and I have a husband and we own a home and we have bills (ugh). I’M A GROWN UP.

I was listening to the Girlboss radio podcast the other day where Sophia Amoruso has a conversation with her mother about finances and life in general. In it, Sophia’s mom says that during the phase of life at ages 0-30 time seems to take forever and that from ages 30-60 time just flies. I was like taken aback because I feel like time has already been flying, particularly since I hit 21 which feels like it was yesterday. Except that it wasn’t and I’ve got to face facts that I’m getting older and I’m not the same person I was yesterday. Cue Chance The Rapper:

Okay so I’m really not old per se, but yes, I’ve changed. Whether it’s how far I’ve come physically in my fitness journey, my education level, my transition to natural hair (dedicated post on this journey coming soon), my sense of style, and caring less about what others think of me. And I can only pray that I’ll continue to evolve with the passing of each day I’m granted to keep making positive steps toward my own idea of self-actualization.

Despite all the changes, there have been constants that I’m so thankful for. There’s my faith, which hasn’t been immune to feeling weak at times with the ups and downs of life, but which has always been a light for me in the darkest of times. My family and friends who are incredibly loving and who always go above and beyond to support me. And there’s fitness, which became a constant during my 17th year and changed my life for the better.

The #FitFor30 Challenge

In honor of entering my 30th year, I’m embarking on 30 days of fitness and I invite you to join me! This challenge is really simple because you guys know how we roll. All you have to do is at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day for the 30 days of the challenge. This can be a walk, a jog, a fitness class or whatever you choose. If you miss a day(s), don’t fret, just get back on the train and keep on going.

My personal goal is to be active for 30 days straight (I’ll have active rest days like going for a walk or taking a yoga class) with the help of ClassPass and with my own randomized workouts. This is day one for me, but feel free to select any day that works for you and get started. Don’t wait for the perfect time to begin because that time will never come–just go for it. Plus, the holidays are around the corner so this can help us be more conscious of making time for our health whether we indulge or not. Here is a sample of what I completed today and what I have planned for the rest of the week and I’ll input some ideas for you all.

Day 1 

AM mile run; PM- TRX Bootcamp

Exercise ideas: 30 minute AM or PM walk. More advanced? Try this circuit that Kyra posted a while back. 

Day 2

202 Strong Cross-fit Class

Exercise ideas: 30 minutes of LISS cardio. If you want to implement weight training, try this Get Shredded routine.

Day 3

TRX Bootcamp

Exercise ideas: 30 minutes of body weight training like this routine (click on the picture to see the video)fitness-blender

Day 4

TBD, but probably yoga or class at Pure Barre

Exercise ideas: Go for a 30 minute power walk or take a new class at your local gym (if you’re worried about cost, check out free trials).

Day 5

45 minute spin class

Exercise ideas: Go for a 30 minute walk or if you want some intensity, do the HIIT treadmill portion of this “6 pack attack” workout. 

Day 6

30 minute walk

Exercise ideas: 30 minute walk or jog

And so on and so on until Day 30! Remember, the goal is to just take 30 minutes each day to move your body. I’ll be posting updates on our Instagram account so be sure to follow along.
