Stitch Fix Review: January 2017

Happy New Year!!! I hope your 2017 is off to a great start.  I figured there’s no better way to kick off the year then with a fresh Stitch Fix! As usual, I’m linking up with Maria at Crazy Together.  Head on over to her site if you’re looking for more Stitch Fix reviews!  Not sure what Stitch Fix is?  Check out this post where I break down the ins and outs of this personal styling service!  Here’s what I received from my stylist, Kaitlin, in January’s Stitch Fix:

T Tahari – Gwenevere Wool Coat ($158)

Cobalt blue coat

I originally pinned this coat because I was immediately drawn to the bright cobalt blue color and was looking for something that would be good to wear to work while still being warm.  Also, I need bright colors to get through this dreary Michigan winter!  Unfortunately, this coat was too big (both too wide and too long) for my height and kind of overwhelmed my 5’2″ frame so it was returned.  If you’re taller this coat would probably be great for you!

Froxx Tarin Cold Shoulder Scoop Neck Knit Top ($54)

black cold shoulder top

I’ve been begging Kaitlin to send me a cold shoulder top forever!  I was so happy to see not one, but two in this months Fix.  I thought this black one would be a winner as soon as I pulled it out of the box, but when I tried it on I found the material a bit too clingy.  Plus, this top is dry clean only and I’m trying to limit those types of tops in my wardrobe.  Positives: it’s SUPER soft, the scoop neck is a nice, sexy detail, and the cold shoulders really stand out.  However, I found a different black cold shoulder top from Nordstrom that I’m hoping I like more (and it’s less expensive).  So, another one sent back!

Daniel Rainn – Disanto Cold Shoulder Blouse ($68)

The second cold shoulder top! When I pulled this one out of the box I thought it was an item I would certainly return.  I’m usually not crazy about patterns like this and felt it was too spring/summery.  BUT, that’s why it’s so important to try everything on!  This blouse is so flattering and I love the details around the neckline.  Although it does still seem like more of a warm weather top to me, I can get away with wearing it now with dark denim and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it in the summer.  White jeans and nude heels would complete the outfit — kept!

Sade New York – Zyana Ponte Dress ($88)

black and white ponte dress

This was the hardest piece to decide on!  I constantly need more dresses for work — it’s so easy to throw on a dress, add accessories, and go!  Plus, this one is machine washable which is huge (and rare with a lot of Stitch Fix pieces).  I ultimately ended up sending it back for a few reasons.  One, it’s short sleeved so I won’t get much use out of it for the next few months.  Two, it’s pretty basic black and white pattern — nothing super special.  Three, I’m pretty sure I could find something similar at Ann Taylor, Loft, etc. for a cheaper price.  Honestly, work appropriate attire from Stitch Fix has been pretty hit or miss.  I find myself keeping more casual pieces or tops that can be worn under blazers.  Which is fine!  There are plenty of other retailers that provide affordable and high quality work clothes.

41Hawthorn – Albury Fringe Trim Tweed Blouse ($58)tweed halter shaped blouse

One of the great things about Stitch Fix has been getting introduced to new brands.  I’m pretty sure I’ve kept everything from 41Hawthorn that I’ve been sent and this blouse is no exception.  The tweed fabric is really nice and sturdy; gold buttons close the halter type back, and there is a subtle high-low hem on this top.  Sleeveless tops aren’t really what I’m looking for right now, but this one looks great under a blazer or cardigan for work and I even tried layering a plain black long sleeved tee underneath, and that also looked great!  Overall a very versatile top for work or nights out — kept!

This will most likely be my last Fix for the winter!  I look forward to receiving a new box in April or May, whenever spring decides to show up.  I’ve got a vacation planned to St. Simons Island with my husband in May and I’m sure I’ll be looking for cute pieces to add to my packing list at that time.  If you have any questions about Stitch Fix, please feel free to let me know in the comments!  I hope your year is off to a wonderful start!
